We took over 2,000 pictures on our vacation and after sifting through them all...I think I am ready to tell you all about our trip!
We left for our Disney World Vacation on December 2nd from Kansas City. We flew into Atlanta and had a connecting flight to Orlando. The night before we left, Clair was up all night and had a fever in the hotel in Kansas City.
The kids went to sleep at 10:00, but didn't sleep very well either. Our alarm went off at 2:00am to get up to get ready for the airport! It was a very short night!!
Our time in the airport was pretty good despite having 3 VERY tired kids and 2 EXHAUSTED parents. We survived security pat downs and only 1 restroom (one stall per gender) in our terminal!
I was lucky enough to have an empty seat next to me on the plane, so Clair sat next to me most of the trip. She had to sit on my lap during take off and landing, so that didn't go over so well, but we all made it through! Samantha & Alden (they sat on each side of Doug) did great! Samantha & Alden (they sat on each side of Doug) did great! They colored with their Color Wonder Markers and watched a movie on our iPods! They didn't even take a nap on the 2 hour flight!
Our connection in Atlanta was crazy! We had to go from one side of the airport to the complete opposite side! We basically RAN to catch our flight! That airport is insane!
Our next flight to Orlando was only about 1 hour long. Clair fell asleep on the way after throwing up on me and then fighting me for the 1st 10 minutes of the flight. Samantha & Alden fell asleep soon after Clair. This time I sat in the middle of all the kids and Doug got his own seat on the other side of the isle.
We landed in Orlando around 11:00am and loaded up the kids in the double stroller and headed to baggage claim. We waited forever for our bags, but the kids were good! After getting our bags, we went to get our rental MiniVan! We lucked out and found a blue van with New York plates which were bright yellow on the front and back! (Most rental cars are white or silver and most are licensed in Florida - where you only have to have a license plate on the back of the car. This made finding our van in the Disney parking lots a lot easier!)
We stopped at McDonalds for lunch on the way to get groceries at SuperTarget (yes - Target - of course!). After getting groceries, we headed for the Polynesian!
The Polynesian would be our hotel for the 1st 3 nights! The kids and I explored the hotel lobby, while Doug checked us into our room. The kids all got Lays as this was a Hawaiian themed hotel. Clair also got a "1st Visit" button to wear around.
We walked to find our room in the Tahiti building (which just happened to be one of the closest buildings to the Ticket & Transportation Center. The Ticket & Transportation Center is where you can get on a Monorail to go to the Magic Kingdom, Epcot, or other Disney hotels, as well as ride a Ferry Boat to the Magic Kingdom.). The kids had fun exploring our hotel room and it was nice to just relax for a few minutes!
Waiting to ride the Ferry Boat to the Magic Kingdom!
On the Ferry Boat (with our hotel in the background!)
We told the kids we would into the Magic Kingdom and ride one ride before going to dinner. Samantha & Alden picked Its A Small World! We enjoyed being inside the Magic Kingdom and feeling the magic that is Disney! Next we walked to our dinner reservation at Chef Mickey's at the Contemporary Hotel.
Alden took a little while to warm up to the characters, but when he saw Donald Duck (his favorite) he decided they were okay! :)
And who doesn't love Mickey Mouse??? (Well...other than Clair?) :)
It was still fairly early after our dinner, so we decided to ride the Monorail to Epcot and walk around a little bit. We rode Spaceship Earth and Alden loved it! Samantha cried and said it was SO boring! (Alden is absolutely Doug's son - he loves that ride! And Samantha is like me - I hate that ride!) Clair didn't really have an opinion on the ride! We got a gorgeous picture of all of us in front of Spaceship Earth or "the big ball" as Alden calls it!
