County Fair

We went to the Cass County Fair near Weeping Water a few weeks ago. The kids wanted to see the animals and lots of their friends were participating in the Muttin Busting that night as well. We went straight for the cows first thing! Of course Samantha was afraid of them, but Alden & Clair were very interested in them. We also saw pigs, chickens, bunnies, goats, and a lot more! Alden liked the roosters and tried to talk to them. Clair tried to talk to the cows. And Samantha mainly hid behind me. After the animals, we walked to the Muttin Busting and found their friends. The picture of the kids and Caden & Cody (also shown riding the sheep) was taken about the time we needed to leave the fair and the kids were not very happy! It happened to be about 95* in the shade that day and it was very miserable! Clair seemed to sweat the most and we all needed showers/baths when we got back home before we could go to bed!

Cass County Fair

Doug took the kids to the Cass County Fair on August 6th after he got off work. (I'm not really a "county" fair type of girl - so I stayed home! :) When I told Samantha that she was going to get to go to the fair with her daddy, she started crying hysterically! She thought the animals would be loose and they would attack her. Poor girl! :) haha. She decided it would be okay, since I convinced her they would all be in cages! They looked at all the animals. Alden touched a sleeping pig! They saw some parachuters and thought it was pretty cool! To end the evening, they watch some of their friends do the "Mutton Bustin' " and Alden is pretty sure he's going to be able to do that next year! Samantha on the other hand probably doesn't want to even go back to the fair. :)

Shucking Sweet Corn @ Nebraska City Grandma's House

The kids & I went down to Nebraska City last week and had supper with my parents. My mom got some sweet corn and the kids helped her clean it. Amazingly, Samantha did get her hands a little dirty and helped pull a few of the husks off the corn! Alden just wanted to eat the corn as soon as they pulled the husk off! He had a few bites of corn on the cob before it was even cooked - yuck!! After they were done cleaning the corn, they had to check and see how their pumpkins were growing. They each planted pumpkins this summer and the vines are now growing out of control. But still no pumpkins.

Thanksgiving

For Thanksgiving this year we spent it with Doug's family. We traveled to Fremont to Doug's aunt & uncle's house, Evie & Tom, for supper. It was a lot of fun. Sam, Doug, Auntie Debra, and Tom rode the 4-wheeler to the barn to see the horses for supper. Samantha liked them from far away, but up close, she was very reserved. She wouldn't pet them and was actually scared when Tom went to pet them. :)

We had the whole big Thanksgiving dinner with Turkey (and ham for me), mashed potatoes, gravy, corn, green beans, mac & cheese, cranberry sauce, pumpkin pie and much more. Great-Grandma & Great-Grandpa McKnight were there, Jim & Sandy, Auntie Debra, Uncle Greg, Tom & Evie, Curtis & Holly, Jodi, Eric, & Jamie, and Evie's mom Sophie. Sam played with legos and Alden enjoyed head butting everyone! :) Afterward, we drove back to Plattsmouth and put the kids to bed and I got ready for a Black Friday Shopping Trip!
